2025 marks 15 years since Tryolabs was born. Over that time, AI has evolved from a niche term to a boardroom priority, and we’ve been fortunate to ride that wave.
This year also brought a special honor: being named in TIME’s “100 Most Influential People in AI”.
It feels like a crown on this 15-year journey, a recognition of the work of so many hands who’ve contributed along the way.
But laurels were never our goal. We’ve been helping shape how organizations use AI to drive real impact. What really matters is how far we’ve come, where we’re adding the most value today, and what comes next. Here’s a bit of us.
Back in 2009, the term “AI” was not even used outside of science fiction writing. In the industry, the term of choice was “machine learning”. During our earliest sales cycles, we often had to start with the absolute basics of explaining what this “machine learning” thing was, and why companies could use it to solve problems that were unsolvable before.
During our initial first years we found our clients in the circles of the San Francisco Bay Area: the Silicon Valley crowd, crazy founders with big dreams that were eager to bet on the unknown. Those days were truly scrappy: we had to get things delivered fast, and iterate at light speed. Many of our early customers either pivoted from their initial dreams, or ran out of money. A few fortunate ones were acquired.
Fast forward to today: Tryolabs has grown from 4 people in Montevideo into a global consultancy of well over 100 collaborators, partnering with corporate & enterprise clients across the US and beyond.
Much has changed, but one thing hasn’t: our philosophy. We are the tailors of AI. Unlike product companies, we are not trying to shove a prepackaged solution into a client. Instead, we co-create, shaping each engagement to fit a client’s unique reality: their data, infrastructure, constraints, business goals, and stakeholders. We’ve worked across many industries, and routinely share a lot of learnings. Yet no two projects are the same, and that’s exactly the point.
The conversation around AI has shifted. It’s no longer about “what is machine learning?” but how do we separate hype from reality? how do I make this work for my business? how do we scale AI responsibly? That’s where our experience matters.
To illustrate, here’s some of the challenges we’ve helped solve:
Our role isn’t to chase the latest flashy demo, but to ensure AI actually works in production settings: reliable, scalable, and consistently producing value for a business.
Beyond business outcomes that make CFOs happy, we’ve committed to projects where AI can be a force for good. With The Nature Conservancy, we’re developing the blueprint of an open-source system that monitors overfishing in real time, democratizing conservation of marine ecosystems worldwide. With UNICEF, we’ve helped locate unmapped schools to connect them to the internet. We’ve even supported early wildfire detection and lion conservation through computer vision.
These projects remind us why we started: AI, applied well, can truly make the world better.
Fifteen years in, the hype around AI has never been louder. But the need for pragmatic, value-driven adoption has never been greater.
Our role is clear: to guide organizations through the noise, focus on what truly drives impact, and co-build solutions that stand the test of time.
We’re building Tryolabs to be the AI partner our clients can always count on: through every shift in technology and every stage of their journey.
Here’s to the next 15 years of building AI with purpose. 🚀
