May 19th came by and the second edition of the Elasticsearch Meetup took place, under Tryolabs Engineering Events series and co-organized with Elastic. Since this event was intended to host a larger audience than the first edition, we decided to move it from Tryolabs' offices to -- the brand new -- Sinergia Tech.
With around 70 attendees, a wide variety of beers and delicious sandwiches, the community gathered together in order to enhance their knowledge upon Elasticsearch and the overall Elastic Stack.
Considering the differences in expertise of the attendees, the talks were split into 3 levels: beginner, intermediate & advanced, delivered in that same order.
For the first talk, Gabriel (Elastic Consultant) gave an overview of the current Elastic Stack, how it has recently evolved and presented a live demo built upon his Nike+ running data using Elasticsearch, Logstash & Kibana.
Up next, Gonz (MonkeyLearn Developer) presented how Elasticsearch was integrated into MonkeyLearn, the issues it is being used to address and a roadmap of features to be built with this technology. In other words, he showed Elasticsearch in context of a real product in ongoing development. Check the slides here.
Ending the talks, Javier (Tryolabs Data Scientist), gave an overview of his experience when putting Elasticsearch into production in different projects and presented a series of performance tips and good practices. All his tips can be seen here (note: text is in Spanish).
All in all, we enjoyed a great time at Sinergia Tech, met people who are doing very interesting things and learned about Elasticsearch, all while having some snacks and beers.
Stay tuned to our Meetup group, similar events are yet to come.
